Manchester: Metrolink just the ticket for Manchester City fans

Manchester City football fans are soon to benefit from a matchday public transport season ticket under a new initiative launched by Metrolink.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has worked with Manchester City Football Club (MCFC) to create the new Metrolink matchday season ticket, which MCFC fans can buy for the 2013/14 season.

The new matchday season ticket will be valid for travel to and from first team home games at the Etihad. Over the course of 19 Premier League home games – and first team home cup matches in all competitions – ticket holders can make travel savings with the convenience of not having to buy a ticket each time.

The Metrolink matchday season ticket can only be purchased alongside MCFC season tickets, which are now on sale. For full terms and conditions see

Metrolink is a proud supporter of football in Manchester and is a sponsor of the Manchester Football Association. It is already in discussions with other clubs along the tram network to introduce similar deals for fans.

We’re proud that Metrolink offers a fast, frequent and reliable matchday service for football fans travelling across the region.

“It’s a premier league tram system and we are delighted that Manchester City is on board with our drive to get matchday traffic off the roads and on to our trams.

“The new Metrolink season ticket offers great value for money and a hassle free journey to the Etihad.”

Danny Wilson, Director of Sales, Service & Operations for Manchester City, said: “As a Club that is passionate about innovation, we are delighted to team up with Metrolink to offer this matchday tram season ticket to our seasoncard holders.

“Ensuring our fans enjoy a premium matchday experience is at the core of our operations. The addition of the Etihad Campus Metrolink stop and the new travel pass makes it not only easier, but also better value for supporters to visit the Club they love.”

Metrolink has become a regular matchday fixture for many fans since the Etihad stop opened in February, with star players Vincent Kompany, James Milner, Joe Hart making on-tram announcements for matchdays.

The Metrolink Etihad Campus stop opened on 11 February as part of the new East Manchester line and offers direct access to the Etihad Stadium and its facilities.

Football contributed around £330 million in gross value added (GVA) to Greater Manchester’s economy in 2010-11, according to a recent report produced by the Sport Industry Research Centre and Cambridge Econometrics on behalf of a Greater Manchester partnership.
